There was a lot of pundit speculation following an NBC interview that Pennsylvania voters would abandon John Fetterman, who is recovering from a stroke months ago. The Tuesday Oct. 25 debate between Fetterman and Mehmet Oz was billed as a critical moment for Fetterman to put to rest what the disability community criticized as ablest takes on Fetterman’s recovery. At the debate, Fetterman continued to exhibit issues with his hearing and speech, common in a stroke recovery. Pundits again speculated that Fetterman’s race was over, a concerned shared by an anonymous “Democratic” operative in a The Hill interview:
“Fetterman’s team never should have agreed to this debate,” one Pennsylvania Democratic operative told The Hill on the condition of anonymity. “He still clearly has serious health issues.”
If Fetterman’s campaign is over, one would suppose it would show up in Pennsylvania’s mail ballot return data. Is it?
